Join Interpreter/Naturalist Craig Hensley of Guadalupe River State Park for a look at the world of butterflies, grasshoppers and more. Learn what makes an insect an insect and how they fit into the natural world; then head into the field with nets in hand to check out who’s who in the buggy world!
  • November 12th - Astronomy in the StarLab Planetarium! Don't miss this opportunity to get an extraordinary view of our Universe, the Milky Way Galaxy, and the solar system that holds our third rock from the sun! Master Naturalist Jamie Kinscherff will take you on a tour of the sky! The night sky will never look the same! This class meets in the Landa Park Rec Center. Must pre-register by November 10th.
  • November 19th - How to Build a Lake! Canyon Lake/Canyon Dam! How do you make a lake out of a river? How do dams really work? Park Ranger Sam Price will describe the making of Canyon Lake and show you how Canyon Dam made it possible. Learn how the dam controls the flow of the Guadalupe River. What would you do with a lake in your backyard? This class meets at the South end of Canyon Dam (or in the Army Corps of Engineers Office at Canyon Dam in case of rain.)
  • November 26th - What’s With Weather? Join Theresa to take a look at the weather. Learn what makes one day sunny and the next day stormy. Discover where our weather comes from, where it’s going, and how to tell what tomorrow’s weather will be! You’ll become a weather forecaster when you learn to read the clouds!!

  • November 1st- Wonderful Wildlife! Join Lori from the Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation Center to learn about sharing our backyards with Texas’s native wildlife. If you look, you might see possums, skunks, snakes or bats! Why are they here? Whose backyard is it, anyway!? Come learn how we can all share and get along.
  • November 8th - Lindheimer the Naturalist! Come visit the historic home and gardens of Ferdinand Lindheimer, known as the Father of Texas Botany. Inside his home we’ll see plant specimens he collected from across Texas and Mexico, and in his garden we’ll see some of the plants he discovered and were named after him. Learn how to preserve a plant specimen to start your own collection! Meet at the Lindheimer Home at 491 Comal Avenue in downtown New Braunfels (one block east of S. Seguin Avenue, between E. Nacodoches St. and E. Faust St.)
  • November 15th - America Recycles Day! “One person’s trash is another one’s treasure!” Where does all our trash go? What if we re-think, re-do, re-new and recycle our unwanted “stuff” instead of throwing it away? Can we make the world a cleaner place? We'll all make birdfeeders out of something recycled!
  • November 22nd - Art in Nature. Come celebrate Thanksgiving by creating a piece of art using nature’s Fall bounty. We’ll use seeds, nuts, pods and other natural treasures to make a special Thanksgiving decoration to take home.
